The HireGenie Finance Evaluation Framework
A resume confirms two things: what someone did and where. It says nothing about whether they can do it again, in your business, at your stage, under your constraints. Most hiring failures happen because that gap never gets checked.

At a Glance
Some dimensions can be assessed through experience and documentation. Most require judgment, context and an understanding of how finance teams operate within different businesses.
The framework
Our framework is designed to evaluate the factors that determine whether someone will succeed in your business, not simply whether they have held a similar title before.
Whether the depth is real, tested against scenarios, not claimed on a CV
Whether they've operated in a business like yours, not just a business
Why they moved when they moved, not just the sequence of titles
Whether they grasp commercial consequence, not just financial mechanics
How they've handled a team or stakeholder under pressure, not in theory
Whether non-finance people take their numbers seriously
Whether they suit this business, at this stage, not finance in general
The why
A Finance Controller excellent in a stable multinational can struggle to build controls from nothing at a startup. An FP&A analyst strong in a mature business can be lost without historical data to model from. Both look right on paper. Both can fail in the wrong context.
A CFO who successfully led fundraising and investor relations for a PE-backed business isn't automatically the right leader for a founder-led startup that first needs operational finance discipline and team building. Same title, same track record, different job.
The framework exists to catch that mismatch before an offer goes out, not after someone starts.
Candidates who pass on paper but fail on context are filtered out before you see them.
Candidates you receive come with the reasoning, not just a recommendation.
Gaps and risks are stated directly, not left for you to discover after the hire.
Every candidate we present is structured the same way.
Sample assessment
Strong multi-entity controllership experience · Experience leading ERP implementation
Limited startup exposure · No investor reporting experience
May require support navigating founder-led environments
Strong technical fit with moderate stage-fit risk
